LAS VEGAS (AP) – New Mexico’s pinballing point guard Dairese Gary left the semifinals of the Mountain West Conference tournament against No. 8 BYU after injuring his right knee.
Gary, a senior, was cutting across the lane early in the second half when he went down and grabbed his knee, grimacing in pain. He was down for a minute before hobbling off to the locker room to a standing ovation from fans of both teams.
Gary was replaced at the point by Jamal Fenton, and Kendall Williams moved over to guard Jimmer Fredette, the nation’s leading scorer, who had 33 points by halftime in this game.
