LEXINGTON, Ky. (AP) – Kentucky coach John Calipari has practiced his young team in football pads and put them in front of punching bags to toughen them up.
But what he said gave the 20th-ranked Wildcats (21-8 overall, 9-6 Southeastern Conference) the edge Tuesday against Vanderbilt, and he hopes they carry that mindset into Sunday’s game at Tennessee, was a tug-of-war principle.
The Wildcats “held onto the rope” in a tight two-point win. They’re hoping to take that lesson on the road Sunday at rival Tennessee.
The Volunteers (18-12, 8-7) are looking to send their six seniors out in style. Kentucky rolled the Volunteers in the first meeting of the season, a 73-61 win at Rupp Arena last month.
