DURHAM, N.C. (AP) – Injured Duke point guard Kyrie Irving took part in some conditioning drills Friday but wasn’t expected to play in the fifth-ranked Blue Devils’ Atlantic Coast Conference tournament opener against Maryland later that night.
Irving came out on the Greensboro Coliseum court about 90 minutes before tipoff in uniform shorts and sneakers and jogged, shuffled and dribbled near Duke’s basket. At the other end of the court, Maryland’s Jordan Williams couldn’t help but watch.
Team spokesman Matt Plizga said Irving was simply working out because practice time is limited during the postseason, and said the freshman would not be in uniform for the game.
Irving has missed more than three months with an injured big toe on his right foot.
