BALTIMORE (AP) -Jeremy Goode had 25 points to lead Mount St. Mary’s to an 84-76 win over Loyola (Md.) on Friday night in the opener for both teams.
Mount St. Mary’s (1-0), which won the Northeast Conference and its first NCAA tournament game last season, led nearly the entire game, but needed a 13-0 run early in the second half to take a 55-41 lead with 14:08 to play.
Kelly Beidler, who added a career-high 17 points and 12 rebounds, had five points and Goode a pair of free throws to help fuel the Mountaineers’ run. Shawn Atumpem chipped in with 13.
Loyola (0-1) was led by Jamal Barney with 14 points and Isaac Reid with 14. The Greyhounds closed to 77-74 with 1:32 to play, but Mount St. Mary’s scored seven straight.
The Mount had lost 38 straight road games in November, and had dropped its first game nine consecutive times.
