CORAL GABLES, Fla. (AP) – A George Mason official says basketball coach Jim Larranaga has talked with the Miami Hurricanes about their job.
George Mason spokeswoman Maureen Nasser says the school gave Miami permission to interview Larranaga.
Larranaga led George Mason to a surprising Final Four berth in the 2006 NCAA tournament. His team went 27-7 this season and reached the third round of the NCAA tournament before losing to Ohio State.
Larranaga is the Patriots’ leader in men’s basketball coaching victories with a 273-164 record in 14 seasons. He’s under contract through 2016.
The Hurricanes seek a replacement for Frank Haith, who left after seven years to become coach at Missouri. Haith went 129-101 at Miami, including 21-15 this past season.
