LAS VEGAS (AP) -Former UNLV coach Jerry Tarkanian is having spinal surgery in California.
Tarkanian’s son, Danny Tarkanian, says his father is having a bone spur that’s compressing his spinal cord removed Tuesday morning at Scripps Memorial Hospital in La Jolla. The procedure was expected to last 90 minutes.
Danny Tarkanian says his father is relieved that he’ll be able to walk without pain.
Jerry Tarkanian turns 79 next month and has had difficulty walking for several years.
“Tark” had a 509-105 record at UNLV from 1973-1992, including the 1990 NCAA championship.
