NEW ORLEANS (AP) – Butler’s Brad Stevens likes being the young coach from the small school whose second straight run deep into the NCAA tournament is capturing the imagination of the basketball-loving public.
More important to him, though, is that the prospect of staging another upset against Florida in Saturday’s Southeast regional final is not beyond the imagination of his players.
Butler (26-9) has already knocked off top-seeded Pittsburgh of the Big East and fourth-seeded Wisconsin of the Big Ten.
The Gators (29-7) of the Southeastern Conference say they know they’ll be next if they don’t play well. Florida coach Billy Donovan says it’s hard to call Butler a Cinderella story when the Bulldogs are one win from a second straight Final Four.
