PITTSBURGH (AP) -Shawn James, Duquesne’s leading scorer and rebounder, sat out the Dukes’ game Wednesday night against St. Bonaventure because of a bruised left kneecap and a mild sprain of the medial collateral ligament.
James, the third-leading shot blocker in NCAA history since the statistic was first recognized in 1985, had discomfort during a 75-74 loss to Fordham on Sunday. He attempted to practice with the injury this week, but was held out of the Atlantic 10 game when tests revealed the injury.
The injury is not believed to be serious – an MRI test on Tuesday revealed no significant damage – and James’ status will be determined on a game-by-game basis.
The 6-foot-10 James, who sat out last season after transferring from Northeastern, is averaging 14.3 points, 7.3 rebounds and 4.1 blocks. He was the defensive player of the year in the America East in 2005 and the Colonial Athletic Association in 2006, after Northeastern switched conferences.
