COLUMBUS, Ohio (AP) – The top-ranked Ohio State men’s basketball team will wear uniform patches marking the two-year anniversary of the Continental Connection Flight 2407 crash at its game Saturday against No. 13 Wisconsin.
Investigators say pilot error led Flight 3407 to stall and crash on Feb. 12, 2009, into a neighborhood in Buffalo, N.Y., killing all 49 people on board and a home’s owner.
Ohio State team video coordinator Kevin Kuwik lost his 30-year-old girlfriend, Lorin Maurer, in the crash.
The patch, worn on the front of the Buckeyes’ jerseys, has the numbers 3407 in white in a circle on a black background.
In a statement, coach Thad Matta says the patches would be worn as a show of support for surviving family members of the crash victims who are working to make regional airlines safer.
