Cornell is undaunted by the challenge of playing Kentucky in the NCAA tournament.
Big Red won’t back down against any team. Not even the top-seeded Wildcats.
Cornell is in the round of 16 in the NCAA tournament for the first time in school history. Kentucky has seven NCAA championships.
The 12th-seeded Big Red are no longer a surprise after beating No. 5 seed Temple and No. 4 seed Wisconsin to become the first Ivy League team to reach the second weekend of the tourney since 1979.
They might have a bit of a homecourt edge. Cornell plays the Wildcats in the East Regional semifinal Thursday in Syracuse, N.Y., about an hour from Cornell’s campus.
Cornell tested its mettle against the big boys in the regular season when it played Kansas and Syracuse.
