RALEIGH, N.C. (AP) -The Atlantic Coast Conference isn’t quite living up to its own lofty standards this season.
The league has just two ranked teams and a muddled set of league standings as January comes to a close. While the league remains third in RPI, it doesn’t have the powerful feel of years past, when teams like North Carolina, Duke and Maryland were favored to win the national championship.
The No. 8 Blue Devils and No. 22 Georgia Tech are the only ranked teams.
Virginia guard Sammy Zeglinski says the league is a wide-open race, with Maryland leading the conference at 4-1. Florida State’s Chris Singleton says teams at least have the chance to control their own destiny by putting together a win streak.
