Xavier Player Spotlight
Naji Marshall had 18 points (6-14 FG, 3-6 3Pt, 3-4 FT), three rebounds, five assists and four steals in Wednesday’s 66-57 victory over Georgetown. The junior’s outing against the Hoyas marked his sixth straight game in double figures. Although his five turnovers are a bit concerning, Marshall was able to make up for the mishaps by tallying four steals on the defensive end. The forward now averages 16.8 points, 5.7 rebounds and 3.4 assists on the campaign and will have another opportunity for a big outing on Sunday against Creighton. He logged 21 points, nine rebounds and seven assists against the Blue Jays on Jan. 11.
Creighton Player Spotlight
Mitch Ballock had 19 points (5-12 FG, 5-11 3pt, 4-5 FT) and six rebounds in Wednesday’s 83-68 win against DePaul. Ballock led the team in scoring Wednesday, but his scoring output remains inconsistent. He’s had at least 17 points in three of the last four games, yet a lot of that is because he’s hitting more threes. For him to continue scoring like this, he’ll need to make around four threes per game, which is a hard thing to bet on.
NCAA College Basketball Betting Trends
Xavier
The Musketeers are 1-4 against the spread in their last five road games when facing an opponent with a winning home record.
Creighton
The Bluejays are 40-19 against the spread in their last 59 games played on Sunday.
Prediction
The underdog has cashed in 13 of the last 16 meetings between these two teams and while Xavier have struggled at the betting window of late (1-4-1 ATS over its last six games), the Musketeers are 9-4 against the number in their last 13 games as an underdog. Xavier coach Travis Steele changed up his lineup in the team’s win over Georgetown, inserting freshman forward Zach Freemantle into the lineup when starting point guard Quentin Goodin. The team was better on the offensive glass and if the Musketeers give that same effort today, then they should be able to cover this number.
