Friars win third straight
Providence earned an 84-72 home victory last Saturday over Marquette to improve to 16-12 overall and 9-6 in conference action. The Friars led 43-29 at halftime on their way to the win. Luwane Pipkins paced Providence with 24 points on 9-of-14 shooting including 3-of-8 from 3-point distance plus 3-of-3 at the free throw line. He also accounted for four rebounds, four steals and three assists. David Duke tallied 15 points, four dimes, two boards and two steals. A.J. Reeves had 11 points and four caroms. Alpha Diallo recorded 10 points, four rebounds, two steals and two blocked shots. Kalif Young accumulated 10 points, three boards and three assists off the bench. Maliek White added 10 points and four assists as a reserve.
Wildcats best Red Storm
Villanova secured a 71-60 home win Wednesday night over St. John’s to move to 22-6 overall and 11-4 in the Big East. The Wildcats outscored the Red Storm 35-26 in the second half to pull away. Saddiq Bey led Villanova with 23 points on 7-of-14 shooting including 4-of-8 from 3-point range plus 5-of-6 at the charity stripe. He also registered four rebounds and three assists. Justin Moore added 21 points and six boards.
College Basketball Betting Trends
Providence
The underdog is 0-4 ATS in the last four meetings. The Friars are 2-5 ATS in the last four meetings.
Villanova
The Wildcats are 63-41 ATS in their last 104 games overall. Villanova is 6-1 straight up in the last seven meetings.
Prediction:
The Wildcats already hold a 64-60 win at Providence last month and with the way they have been playing as of late, I have confidence in the hosts this afternoon. The early start time will help Villanova and I don’t like the Friars’ chances to hang in there with a so-so offensive attack.
