West Coast Conference Tournament Pick
Can anyone other than Gonzaga or Saint Mary’s come away with the West Coast Conference Tournament title? Here’s our prediction for this event.
The West Coast Conference Tournament features 10 teams, with the bottom four teams opening play on Friday and top seed teams getting a bye into the quarterfinals. The championship of the tournament takes place on March 6. All games will be held from Orleans Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada.
According to oddsmakers at YouWager, Gonzaga is the favorite in this tournament, as the Bulldogs are getting odds of -250 to win. Saint Mary’s is listed with+160 odds, while BYU is the next smallest odds at +700.
Bet on the West Coast Conference Tournament
Gonzaga got the top seed in this tournament by going 17-1 in conference play and 27-4 overall. The Bulldogs split their two meetings with St. Mary’s this season, with the road team winning in each instance. Zaga has won this tournament 23 times, including the last five years.
Saint Mary’s also posted a 27-4 overall record this season, but went 16-2 in West Coast Conference play. The Gaels will be the second seed this weekend. Aside from the loss to Gonzaga, Saint Mary’s also fell to San Francisco. The Gaels have won this tournament 11 times, last doing so in 2012. They have made the final the last two years.
This tournament looks to be a two-horse race. If you really want to try and find a dark horse, upset pick, San Francisco may be the team at +2000. San Francisco beat Saint Mary’s and gave Gonzaga a pair of competitive games. The problem is it went 9-9 in the WCC, so you can’t expect it to beat three teams in a row. With this likely down to Gonzaga and Saint Mary’s, I will go with the Bulldogs. The Gaels won the first meeting, but Zaga made adjustments and dominated the second meeting. I don’t see Saint Mary’s being able to make enough adjustments to do the same.
