Big East Tournament Predictions: Georgetown vs. St. John’s 3/8/17

Georgetown vs. St. John’s Pick

The 2017 Big East Tournament gets underway tonight at 7PM ET when St. John’s takes on Georgetown. Who will come out the winner?

According to oddsmakers at BetDSI, Georgetown is the slight favorite in this game, as the Hoyas are getting odds of -1 point against St. John’s. The over/under total for the game is listed at 153.5 points. These two split the season series, with Georgetown picking up an 83-55 win at home on Jan. 9 and St. John’s grabbing an 86-80 win at home on Feb. 25. Today’s game takes place from Madison Square Garden in New York.

Georgetown is the No. 9 seed in this tournament. The Hoyas come into the weekend having lost five straight to fall to 14-17 on the season and 5-13 in the Big East. They are also just 10-19 against the spread. Georgetown is averaging 74.1 points per game on offense while allowing 72.1 on defense. Away from home, G’Town is allowing 77.3 points per game. The Hoyas are led by Rodney Pryor, who is averaging 18.1 points and 5 rebounds per game. L.J. Peak is adding 16 points per contest.

St. John’s is the eighth seed in the Big East Tournament. The Red Storm are 13-18 on the season and 7-11 in the Big East. They come into the week having lost two straight. They also are just 1-4 against the spread in their last five games, but sit at 15-15 against the spread on the season. St. John’s is averaging 77.2 points per game on offense while allowing 78 on defense. Shamorie Ponds is averaging 17.6 points per game to lead the team while Marcus LoVett is adding 16.4 points per contest.

Bet on the Big East Tournament

This is essentially a home game for St. John’s, which I think gives them the edge today. The Red Storm are 9-5 at home during the season and 8-5 against the spread. The Hoyas are really struggling right now, scoring just 65.8 points per game over their last five. St. John’s is a team that is going to score some points, so with the Hoyas struggling to score right now, look for the Red Storm to get the win.
