MINNEAPOLIS (AP) -Kurt Rambis has wrapped up his first preseason as coach of the Minnesota Timberwolves with a 3-5 record.
Rambis has concentrated on teaching one of the youngest teams in the league how to be professionals. It’s a stark difference from the job he left as Phil Jackson’s top assistant with the Lakers, who had a veteran-laden team that won the franchise’s 15th NBA title last summer.
Rambis left a few months later to take over a Timberwolves franchise that has only been out of the first round of the playoffs once in its 20-year history.
He is dealing with injuries to Kevin Love and Al Jefferson, so the road hasn’t been easy so far. But Rambis is confident that he can get the team turned around in a few years.
