NEW ORLEANS (AP) – Pelicans coach Monty Williams says All-Star forward Anthony Davis has a mild groin strain and could play again as soon as Friday night against the Los Angeles Clippers.
The coach says he hopes Davis can not only play, but play his usual 35 to 42 minutes.
Specifically, Davis’ injury is a grade 1 adductor strain, an injury that causes soreness from being over-stretched but which does not necessarily limit muscle function going forward.
Davis has not spoken with reports since his injury late in the third quarter of Wednesday night’s 93-85 loss to Denver. Williams says Davis has been walking around normally at the Pelicans’ training center and getting treatment on Thursday, but not doing anything strenuous.
