EAST RUTHERFORD, N.J. (AP) -Eight-time All Star guard Vince Carter sprained his right ankle late in the third quarter and was forced to leave the New Jersey Nets’ game against the Boston Celtics on Saturday.
Carter drove the lane for a big slam dunk with 1:23 to play. His left foot came down, but his right foot rolled after landing on the foot of Celtics forward Paul Pierce.
Carter lay on the court for a couple of minutes before slowly going straight to the Nets locker room.
“I don’t know, we’ll see what happens,” said Carter, who was wearing a nearly knee-high boot on his right foot after the game. “I’ll see how it feels tomorrow and we’ll go from there. I don’t want to put a timetable on it.”
Carter, who signed a four-year contract valued at about $65 million in the offseason, had 17 points before being hurt.
