DALLAS (AP) -The Dallas Mavericks are going to keep 44-year-old center Kevin Willis around a little longer.
Willis, the oldest active player in the NBA, was signed Thursday for the rest of the season after the 10-day contract he got on April 2 ran out.
The 7-foot Willis has played only six minutes in two games for Dallas, which has clinched the No. 1 seed in the Western Conference playoffs with four games left. He has one rebound and one blocked shot without scoring a point.
Still, the Mavericks are keeping Willis to provide depth in the middle. Starting center Erick Dampier has been hampered by a shoulder injury and didn’t travel to Minnesota for Wednesday night’s game. He also will miss Friday’s game against the Utah Jazz.
Before signing with Dallas, Willis played 29 games for Atlanta in 2004-05.
