NEW YORK (AP) – Charlotte Hornets scoring leader Kemba Walker has been cleared to resume all basketball activities, moving him closer to a return from left knee surgery.
Walker had surgery Jan. 28 in New York to repair a torn lateral meniscus and the Hornets said at the time he was expected to miss at least six weeks.
With the Hornets back in New York to face Brooklyn on Wednesday, Walker visited the surgeon who performed the procedure, and he cleared the point guard for all activities without restrictions.
Coach Steve Clifford says the Hornets will practice again Saturday and Walker’s return to action will depend on how the knee responds to an increased workload.
Charlotte has a three-game homestand next week, then begins a five-game trip March 16 at Utah.
Walker is averaging 18.8 points in 42 games.
