SALT LAKE CITY (AP) -The Utah Jazz honored Hot Rod Hundley with a halftime ceremony Friday night and dedicated the press room to him for his 35 years with the franchise.
Hundley was a broadcaster for the Jazz from the time they were an expansion team playing in New Orleans in 1974 until last summer, when he retired.
Jazz fans gave Hundley a standing ovation at halftime against the Sacramento Kings before he pulled the chord unveiling a banner with the team’s retired numbers. Instead of a number, a big purple microphone topped the banner, which also noted Hundley’s 3,051 games with the Jazz.
Hundley made the move to Utah with the rest of the club in 1979 and did both the television and radio broadcasts until 2005, then spent four more years on the radio.
