INDIANAPOLIS (AP) -The trial for Golden State’s Stephen Jackson, accused of firing a gun during a fight at an Indianapolis strip club, has been delayed a second time and is now set for June 21.
Marion Superior Court Judge Patricia J. Gifford on Monday granted a defense motion to continue the trial over the objection of prosecutors, the Marion County prosecutor’s office said Wednesday.
In April, the trial was moved to May 10. The Warriors will play their second game in the Western Conference semifinals Wednesday against Utah, after losing the opener to the Jazz on Monday.
Jackson pleaded not guilty to a felony charge of criminal recklessness and misdemeanor counts of battery and disorderly conduct for his role in a fight outside Club Rio in October, when he was playing for the Indiana Pacers. Jackson said he fired shots in the air with his pistol to try to break up the fight.
The criminal recklessness charge carries a prison term of six months to three years.
At the time of the Club Rio fight, Jackson was on probation for his role in a 2004 brawl between Pacers players and Detroit Pistons fans. Jackson pleaded no contest to misdemeanor assault and battery charges in September 2005 for his role in the incident.
A Michigan judge ruled the charges stemming from the October fight were a violation of Jackson’s probation. Jackson, who was traded to the Warriors in January, faces up to 30 days in jail on the probation violation.
