PHILADELPHIA (AP) -Shavlik Randolph picked up the one-year option on his contract with the Philadelphia 76ers on Friday as he attempts a comeback from a broken and dislocated left ankle.
In two seasons with the Sixers, Randolph averaged 2.7 points and 2.7 rebounds in 70 games. He was limited to 13 games last year after his Nov. 30 injury.
“It’s taken a whole lot longer than I thought it would, but not anyone else,” Randolph said. “All the doctors thought it would take this long.”
Randolph said he hadn’t decided if he would play in the Sixers summer league games in Las Vegas or Salt Lake City.
“If I can go out there and practice and feel good enough to play, I’ll do it,” he said. “I won’t go out there if I don’t feel I’m ready.”
Randolph signed as an undrafted free agent with the Sixers before the 2005 season, following a three-year career at Duke. He signed a two-year contract – which included a reported $1.1 million option for this year – and averaged 4.5 points and 4.2 rebounds before he was hurt.
