LOS ANGELES (AP) -Clippers forward Elton Brand was cleared Tuesday to take part in advanced cardiovascular work and told he no longer needs to wear the walking boot he has worn since Sept. 18.
Brand had his surgically repaired left Achilles’ tendon re-examined by Dr. Craig Morgan at Christiana Care’s Wilmington Hospital in Wilmington, Del.
Besides participating in elliptical and treadmill cardiovascular conditioning and aqua-therapy, Brand will continue his upper body strength program and localized rehabilitation of the injury. The Clippers said he will be re-evaluated by Dr. Morgan in six weeks to determine further progress and treatment protocols.
Brand, who averaged 20.5 points and 9.3 rebounds last season, was injured Aug. 3 during his daily workout in nearby El Segundo, and Morgan performed the surgery four days later.
While no timetable has been set for his return to the court, Brand is expected to miss at least the first several months of the season.
