PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) -Injured forward Martell Webster and the Portland Trail Blazers agreed to a four-year contract extension Friday night.
The deal is worth $20 million, a person close to the negotiations told The Associated Press. The person spoke on condition of anonymity because the Trail Blazers did not release the deal’s terms.
The 22-year-old Webster averaged career highs of 10.7 points, 3.7 rebounds and 28.4 minutes in 75 games last season. He sustained a stress fracture in his foot during the preseason and is expected to be out until December.
The Blazers drafted the 6-foot-7 Webster sixth overall out of Seattle Prep in 2005. He cracked the starting lineup in 2007-08, his fourth season, and became a long-range threat, shooting 38.8 percent from 3-point range.
The deal could keep Webster with the Blazers through 2012-13. The team holds an option for the last year of the contract.
