HOUSTON (AP) -Houston forward Carl Landry was activated Tuesday night for the Rockets’ game against Orlando, a little more than three weeks after he was shot in the left calf.
Landry, 25, has missed eight games since he was wounded in the early morning of March 17 in Houston, a few hours after the team returned from a victory in New Orleans. Landry went through his first full scrimmage on Monday, and coach Rick Adelman said Landry would probably see action against the Magic.
“I’m sure I won’t play him very long, just try to get his feet wet, play him in short stretches and see how he reacts to it,” Adelman said. “The quicker we get him back, the more he can build toward the end of the season.”
The 6-foot-9 Landry has blossomed into a valuable reserve in his second season, averaging 9.3 points and five rebounds. He scored 12 points and grabbed six rebounds in the Rockets’ 95-84 victory over the Hornets that preceded the shooting.
into a utility pole. When Landry got out of his vehicle to inspect the damage, one of the occupants fired two shots.
Adelman said Landry seems to have mentally recovered from the incident.
“I think you can tell with the way he’s on the floor, how he’s feeling,” Adelman said. “We’ve all been trying to tell him he had to push it, and keep pushing it, because physically, it seemed like everything was fine. He moved pretty good in that scrimmage (Monday) and had no negative results from it.”
To make room for Landry on the roster Tuesday, the Rockets deactivated guard James White.
