ATLANTA (AP) -Minnesota coach Randy Wittman could return early next week after undergoing back surgery on Wednesday.
According to acting head coach Jerry Sichting, Wittman might rejoin the Timberwolves in Washington on Tuesday. Minnesota began its game against the Atlanta Hawks on Thursday 0-1 under Sichting.
“He should be ready by then,” Sichting said. “I think that’s what the plan is anyway. Just from the sound of his voice, he sounded a lot better this morning. He’s been in so much pain he didn’t sound like himself the couple days previous to his surgery.”
Sichting, a first-year assistant with Minnesota, worked under former Timberwolves coach Flip Saunders for nine years before spending last season at Marquette.
Wittman has a 14-44 record with Minnesota.
