PHILADELPHIA (AP) -The Philadelphia 76ers signed a pair of rookies acquired in draft-night deals in June.
Derrick Byars, the 42nd pick by Portland, and Herbert Hill, the 55th pick by Utah, both signed contracts with the 76ers on Tuesday.
The Sixers acquired the rights to Byars, a 6-foot-7 swingman out of Vanderbilt, for the rights to Petteri Koponen – the 30th pick – and cash. He averaged 17 points and 4.9 rebounds as a senior and was the Southeastern Conference player of the year.
Hill, a 6-10 forward/center out of Providence, was acquired for the rights to Kyrylo Fesenko, the 38th pick, and future draft considerations. He averaged 18.1 points, 8.8 rebounds and 2.94 blocks as a senior when he was chosen as the Big East Most Improved Player.
