Public Betting Trends
According to oddsmakers from online sportsbook BetNow.eu, the Timberwolves are 1-point favorites to beat the Grizzlies. The total, meanwhile, sits at 216 points and as of this writing, 52% of the public betting tickets wagered at online sportsbooks are on the Grizzlies to cover the point spread.
Minnesota Timberwolves Fantasy Spin
Karl-Anthony Towns scored 21 points with 16 rebounds, six assists, one steal, two blocks and two 3-pointers in 34 minutes during a 113-106 loss to the Hornets on Thursday. It was a little odd that KAT didn’t play all of the possessions down the stretch in this game, but it’s nothing to worry about. Towns has been sporting heat packs on his knees, and he is playing through some knee soreness. The Wolves are playing horribly right now with nine straight road losses, and they are going to be eliminated from the playoffs in the next couple days. Still, KAT has massive value as long as he’s in the lineup, and there’s been no word of dialing him back yet.
Memphis Grizzlies Fantasy Spin
Jonas Valanciunas pulled down a career-high 24 boards in a 123-119 overtime loss on Friday, adding 23 points, three rebounds, four blocks and one 3-pointer in 41 minutes. Monster. He’s the sixth player this season with 20-plus defensive rebounds in a game as he tripled his season average of 7.6 boards per game. This is also the first 20/20 game from a Grizzlies player since Zach Randolph in 2014. Valanciunas is coming off a career-high 33 points on Wednesday, and we’re finding out what a full workload from JV in his prime could equate to. He’s been an absolute stud this month and he should be out there on Saturday, but his fantasy owners will want to check back to make sure, especially after two big OT games.
NBA Betting Trends
Minnesota
The Timberwolves are 0-9 against the spread in their last nine games when their opponent scores 100 points or more in their previous contest.
Memphis
The Grizzlies have covered in 17 of their last 22 games versus opponents from the Northwest Division.
Prediction
The Timberwolves have been a poor bet in this series, covering just once in the last eight meetings between these two teams and only seven times in their last 26 trips to Memphis. The underdog, meanwhile, is 7-1 at the betting window in the previous eight meetings. Minnesota hasn’t covered a spread in five straight games and in eight consecutive on the road. The Grizzlies, meanwhile, are 7-2 at the window in their last nine games overall and are a perfect 4-0 against the spread in their last four home games.
