Grizzlies heating up
Memphis has been on a bit of a hot streak lately, winning and covering the spread in four of their last five games following a 118-111 win over Miami at home on Monday. The Grizzlies are 10-17 on the season, 5-6 on the road, 12-15 against the spread and 14-13 with the under.
The Grizz are more impactful on offense this season, averaging 110.2 points per game while shooting 45.8 percent as a team. However, their defense is much worse this season. Memphis is allowing 116 points per game while opponents shoot 46 percent against them. Ja Morant, the rookie, has been leading Memphis with 18.8 points and 6.5 assists per game. Jaren Jackson Jr. is adding 17.5 points and 4.8 rebounds per contest.
Thunder trying to get on track
Oklahoma City has been a little streaky this season, but the Thunder have won and covered in four of their last six coming into tonight. That includes a 109-106 win over the Bulls on Monday. OKC is 12-14 on the season, 8-5 at home, 16-10 against the spread and 15-11 with the under.
The Thunder are putting up 107.6 points per game on offense this year while shooting 46.5 percent as a team. Defensively, OKC is giving up 107.2 points per game while opponents shoot 45.5 percent against them. Shai Gilgeous-Alexander is leading the Thunder with 18.0 points, 5.0 rebounds and 3.0 assists per game. Danilo Gallinari is adding 17.8 points and 5.8 rebounds per contest.
NBA Betting Trends
Memphis
The Grizzlies are just 2-5 against the spread in their last seven games following a cover, but 4-1 ATS in their last five Wednesday games.
Oklahoma City
The Thunder are 5-2 against the spread in their last seven home games and 9-3 ATS in their last 12 games following a failed cover.
Prediction:
These two teams look very different this season and they have yet to meet this year. While I definitely think that OKC is the better team, I have my doubts when it comes to this spread. Memphis has been playing well as of late and they aren’t a team that tends to get run by average teams. The Thunder have had some pretty close calls at home over recent weeks, including an OT game with Minnesota, a 7-point loss to Indiana and just a 5-point win over New Orleans. They are coming off a 3-point home win over Chicago. The Thunder just don’t have the offense to really light up opponents. Memphis hasn’t been great defensively, but their offense is improved and I think they have the talent to compete with OKC tonight. Morant has showed a lot and I think he will be the difference maker tonight to allow the Grizzlies to cover on the road.
NBA Prediction: Memphis Grizzlies +6.5
