Mavs 40/1 after signing Matthews
DALLAS, TX (The Spread) – After deciding not to take a contract offer from the Kings, Wesley Matthews has agreed to terms with the Dallas Mavericks.
Marc Stein tweeted early Friday morning that Matthews’ camp had notified the Kings that he was unlikely to take their offer, which was reportedly a four-year deal worth $64 million. Matthews instead agreed to a four-year pact with the Mavericks, although the financial details have yet to be revealed. He’ll step into Monta Ellis’ role at shooting guard.
Matthews averaged 15.9 points and 2.3 assists per game last year for the Trail Blazers, who are also likely to lose LaMarcus Aldridge this offseason. It’s worth noting that Matthews wants to play with DeAndre Jordan, so perhaps Dallas can secure his services as well. The 26-year-old Jordan is rumored to be deciding between the Mavs and re-upping with the Clippers.
According to oddsmakers from online sports book GT Bets, the Mavericks are 40/1 long shots to win the 2016 NBA Finals. The Cavs are the current favorites at 14/5, although the defending champion Warriors have comparable odds at 13/2. The Spurs are 7/1.
