Clippers heating up
Los Angeles struggled on the road in the early stages of the season, but they have won three straight on the road, all by double digits, following a 112-92 win at Toronto on Wednesday night. The Clippers are 19-7 on the season, 6-6 on the road, 15-11 against the spread and 16-10 with the under.
The Clippers are putting up 115 points per game on offense this year while shooting 45.6 percent as a team. Defensively, the Clippers are giving up 107.7 points per game while holding opponents to 42.5 percent shooting. While Los Angeles will be without its defensive leader, Patrick Beverley, due to a concussion, they will still have their big 2. Kawhi Leonard is averaging 24.9 points, 7.7 rebounds and 5.3 assists per game to lead the team. Paul George is adding 23.2 points, 6.3 rebounds and 3.5 assists per contest.
Minnesota drops sixth straight
The Minnesota Timberwolves are coming off a 127-116 loss at home to the Jazz on Wednesday night for a sixth straight loss and sixth straight failed cover. Minnesota is 10-4 on the season, 3-8 at home, 9-14-1 against the spread and 15-9 with the over.
Minnesota is scoring 114.6 points per game this year while shooting 44.5 percent. However, the Timberwolves are a mess on defense, giving up 117.8 points per game while opponents shoot 46.5 percent from the field and 37.2 percent from the arc. Minnesota could be without Jeff Teague today, who is dealing with an ankle injury. He averages 14.1 points and 6.9 assists per game. Karl-Anthony Towns is leading the team with 25.9 points, 11.7 rebounds and 4.5 assists per game. Andrew Wiggins is adding 24.6 points, 5.2 rebounds and 3.4 assists per contest.
NBA Betting Trends
Los Angeles
The Clippers have failed to cover in seven straight Friday games, but are 21-9 ATS in their last 30 games as a road favorite.
Minnesota
The Timberwolves have failed to cover in six straight home games and in four straight as an underdog.
Prediction:
These two have yet to meet this season, but I have to go with the Clippers tonight. These two are going in very different directions. The Clippers have impressively won three straight on the road since being humbled by Milwaukee. I think Los Angeles knows where it needs to get to to contend for the championship this year. Minnesota is just a team full of talent that doesn’t care to play defense. They have given up at least 121 points in five straight games. That is going to be an issue again tonight against a deep Los Angeles bench that plays with a lot of pride. Pride has been missing in Minnesota for years.
