Love becomes free agent
CLEVELAND, OH (TheSpread) – Kevin Love is looking to strike a new contract this offseason as he elected to opt out of the final year of his contract on Wednesday.
According to ESPN, Love notified the Cleveland Cavaliers on Wednesday that he is opting out of his contract for the upcoming season, which was worth $16.7 million. The move allows Love to become a free agent that can head anywhere. Many feel he may end up back with Cleveland with a different contract and this move was expected by the organization.
According to oddsmakers at Bovada.lv, the Cavaliers are still favored to win the 2016 NBA Finals, as they have 13/5 odds. Other short odds to win are the Golden State Warriors (5/1) and the Oklahoma City Thunder (15/2).
After spending the first six seasons of his career with the Minnesota Timberwolves, Love was traded to the Cavaliers this past season to join LeBron James and Kyrie Irving. This season, he averaged 16.4 points, 9.7 rebounds and 2.2 assists per game. The points and rebounds were among the lowest in his career since his first two seasons in Minnesota. In the playoffs, Love played in four games before suffering a shoulder injury. He averaged 14.3 points and 7 rebounds per game in that time. Love is expected to be ready for the start of the 2015-16 season.
