Pistons need a win
The Pistons are in a “win-and-in” situation tonight where a win, or a Hornets loss to the Magic, will put Detroit in the playoffs. They nearly blew having this chance last night, trailing a very short-handed Memphis team by 20 points last night before rallying for a 100-93 victory at home. Still, Detroit has failed to cover in five straight. The Pistons are 40-41 overall, 14-26 on the road, 40-38-3 against the spread and 42-39 with the under.
Detroit is a respectable defense, giving up just 107.5 points per game while holding opponents to 34.6 percent shooting from the arc. Offensively, Detroit averages just 107 points per game while shooting only 44 percent as a team. Blake Griffin has been battling a knee injury and is listed as questionable tonight, but it’s hard to imagine he won’t play. He is averaging 24.5 points, 7.5 rebounds and 5.4 assists per game. Andre Drummond is adding 17.3 points and 15.6 rebounds per contest.
Knicks win back-to-back
Despite being out of the playoff mix, New York is coming off back-to-back wins over the Wizards and the Bulls, including a 96-86 win at Chicago last night. The Knicks are now 17-64 overall, 9-31 at home, 32-48-1 against the spread and 43-37-1 with the under.
The Knicks are one of the worst offenses in the league, averaging 104.8 points per game while shooting a league-worst 43.3 percent from the field. Defensively, New York is putting up 113.8 points per game while shooting 46.7 percent from the field. It’s unclear who will play tonight for the Knicks as the likes of Mario Hezonja, Kadeem Allen and Allonzo Trier are all dealing with injuries. Dennis Smith Jr. is leading the team with 14.7 points and 5.4 assists per game while Kevin Knox is adding 12.9 points per contest.
NBA Betting Trends
Detroit
The Pistons are 1-4 against the spread in their last five conference games, but 11-5-1 ATS in their last 17 games following a win.
New York
The Knicks are just 20-41 ATS in their last 61 home games and 7-19 ATS in their last 26 Wednesday games.
Prediction:
The Pistons have looked awful lately. While they managed a win last night, they faced an absolutely garbage roster that Memphis had and still found themselves down 20. New York has actually won lately and will still have a little life at home tonight. I don’t think this is a slam dunk for the Pistons and this could turn into a big disaster. I can’t trust them as a 10-point road favorite when they struggled so much last night at home against a lesser team.
NBA Prediction: New York Knicks +10
