Nuggets take 3-2 lead
The Nuggets took a 3-2 lead in the series with a 108-90 win at home in Game 5 on Tuesday. Denver has won and covered in three of the last four in this series. The Nuggets are 57-30 on the season, 21-22 on the road, 45-42 against the spread and 49-37-1 with the under.
Denver continued to play well offensively in Game 5, going 39 of 78 from the field and 14 of 33 from the arc. Nikola Jokic approached another triple-double with 16 points, 11 rebounds and eight assists. Jamal Murray led the team in scoring with 23 points and also dished out seven assists. Will Barton added 17 points and five rebounds off the bench for Denver.
Spurs in a funk
San Antonio lost for the second straight time in the series on Tuesday. After defense let the Spurs down in Game 4, their offense let them down in Game 5. San Antonio is now 50-37 on the season, 33-10 at home, 45-40-2 against the spread and 46-40-1 with the over.
The Spurs were the league’s top 3-point shooting team in terms of percentage this season, but they were just 7 of 24 from the arc in Game 5. They also were just 37 of 90 from the field. LaMarcus Aldridge had 17 points and 10 rebounds to lead the team in the loss while DeMar DeRozan had 17 points as well. Both Jakob Poetl and Derrick White each scored 12 points.
NBA Betting Trends
Denver
The Nuggets are 3-9 against the spread in their last 12 conference quarterfinal games and 4-10 ATS in their last 14 games on 1 day of rest.
San Antonio
The Spurs are just 2-6-1 against the spread in their last nine conference games and 1-6 ATS in their last seven home games.
Prediction:
The winning team has covered the spread in all five games of this series. Denver certainly has turned the tide in this series over the last two games, but the Nuggets still aren’t a great road team. They are just 18-25 against the spread on the road this season while San Antonio is 25-18 against the spread at home. I don’t think the Spurs are going to go down without a fight tonight and they will make the adjustments they need to on defense while shooting better from the arc at home.
NBA Prediction: San Antonio Spurs -3
