Jennings out for the Pistons
AUBURN HILLS, MI (TheSpread) – The Detroit Pistons have had a great start to 2015 and emerged as a playoff contender, but the team suffered a big injury on Saturday night.
Starting point guard Brandon Jennings will be out for the remainder of the season after he ruptured his left Achilles tendon in Saturday’s loss to the Milwaukee Bucks. Jennings tweeted out on Sunday that he will miss six to nine months of action.
According to oddsmakers at Bovada.lv, the Pistons now have 250/1 odds to win the NBA Finals this season. The Pistons’ odds were down to 50/1 just a few weeks ago, but the injury has obviously changed their outlook. The Warriors are favored to win the NBA Finals with 4/1 odds, while the Cleveland Cavaliers have 5/1 odds.
Jennings has been a real catalyst for the Pistons’ string of strong play since the team released Josh Smith. On the season, Jennings is averaging 15.4 points, 6.6 assists and 1.1 steals per game. Jennings was just coming off a 24-point, 21-assist performance against the Magic prior to Saturday’s injury. After a 5-23 start to the season, the Pistons have climbed to 17-27 on the season to get within 1.5 games of the eighth and final playoff spot in the East.
