Hawks back on a slide
The Atlanta Hawks are coming off a 104-101 at Toronto on Tuesday night for their fourth loss in five games. However, the Hawks have covered the spread in two straight. The Hawks are 12-28 on the season, 5-18 on the road, 18-22 against the spread and 21-19 with the over.
The Hawks are one of the worst defensive teams in the league, allowing 117.2 points per game while allowing opponents to shoot 36.7 percent from the arc. Offensively, Atlanta averages 108.9 points per game while shooting just 33.6 percent from the arc. Atlanta continues to be without Kent Bazemore and Taurean Prince with ankle injuries. John Collins is leading the team with 18.4 points and 10.5 rebounds per game while Trae Young is adding 15.5 points and 7.3 assists per contest.
Nets end win streak
Brooklyn is coming off a 116-95 loss at Boston on Monday to snap a three-game win streak. The Nets had covered in three straight prior to the loss as well. Brooklyn is 20-22 on the season, 10-11 at home, 22-20 against the spread and 22-20 with the over.
The Nets are putting up 110.7 points per game on offense this season while shooting 36.1 percent from the arc. Defensively, Brooklyn is giving up 111.5 points per game while allowing opponents to shoot 47.1 percent from the floor. Injuries have been an issue throughout the year as Caris LeVert, Rondae Hollis-Jefferson and Allen Crabbe also have had long-term injuries while Kenneth Faried is questionable tonight with an ankle injury. D’Angelo Russell is leading the team right now with 18.1 points and 6.3 assists per game while Spencer Dinwiddie is adding 17.1 points and 5.1 assists per contest.
NBA Betting Trends
Atlanta
The Hawks are 0-6 against the spread in their last six on no rest and 2-7 ATS in their last nine against Atlantic Division oppnents.
Brooklyn
The Nets are 7-2 against the spread in their last nine home games and 7-1 ATS in their last eight games against a team with a losing record.
Prediction:
These two had quiet a high-scoring meeting back on Dec. 16, with the Nets winning 144-127 at home. The Nets have won and covered the spread in six of their last seven against the Hawks. Atlanta just had a close call at Toronto, but they have struggled on the road as of late, especially on defense. The injuries are piling up for Atlanta and really hurting their brief momentum they had late in December. They should be worn down after the hard-fought game with the Raptors and facing a Brooklyn team that has won its last three at home. I will take my chances with the Nets despite the big spread.
NBA Prediction: Brooklyn Nets -9
