BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (AP) – Will Power has high hopes for the Indy Grand Prix of Alabama.
The polesitter hopes the drivers can make it at least through the first turn incident-free in Sunday’s race at Barber Motorsports Park. He’s also hoping his team’s strategy at Barber Motorsports Park works out better than last year, when a third pit stop cost him the lead.
This is IndyCar’s second race using the NASCAR-style double-file start and restarts. Stars Helio Castroneves and Scott Dixon were among those who had trouble very early in the first race at St. Petersburg.
Those two and Ryan Briscoe start with Power on the front two rows. Castroneves is the defending champion at Alabama.
Power, who excels on road courses, says this is one “I really want to win.”
