TALLADEGA, Ala. (AP) – NASCAR’s Jamie McMurray and IndyCar’s Scott Dixon did a little car-swapping.
McMurray took a few laps around Barber Motorsports Park in suburban Birmingham in Dixon’s No. 9 Target Honda Indy car on Wednesday. Then, they headed 30 minutes away to Talladega Superspeedway, where Dixon climbed behind the wheel of McMurray’s No. 1 Bass Pro Shops Chevrolet.
The car-swapping was part of a promotion for races at both tracks on back-to-back weekends in April.
Both drivers enjoyed the ride. After his run, Dixon told his NASCAR counterpart the car was “like a Cadillac. It’s so smooth.”
McMurray said the Barber laps were “way more fun that I thought it would be.” He did have a spinout after taking one turn.
But even that, he says, is just part of racing.
