MARTINSVILLE, Va. (AP) – Kyle Busch says Joe Gibbs Racing has determined that problems with two of its engines last weekend were valve-related.
Denny Hamlin’s engine failed midway through Sunday’s race and Joey Logano’s team switched his the morning of the event because they didn’t think it would last for 400 miles.
Busch says identifying the problem is a huge step in the right direction for JGR, which has had engine issues in all five races this season.
Hamlin goes into Sunday’s race at Martinsville as the three-time defending winner.
His engine failure last week led to a 39th-place finish, and cost him four spots in the standings. He’s ranked 21st.
