TALLADEGA, Ala. (AP) – Clint Bowyer beat teammate Jeff Burton to the finish line at Talladega Superspeedway to give Richard Childress Racing its 100th victory in the Sprint Cup Series.
As expected, the race heated up at the end as drivers jockeyed for position. It led to a series of accidents, but none were serious. The last accident, with eight laps remaining, was a hard hit by Regan Smith that required repairs to the SAFER barrier.
RCR grabbed the victory roughly 30 minutes after a memorial service for two-time Indianapolis 500 winner Dan Wheldon ended. Wheldon was killed in the IndyCar season finale a week ago at Las Vegas.
