CHICAGO (AP) – Tribune Co. CEO Sam Zell says the company is pushing ahead with the sale of the Chicago Cubs and Wrigley Field and bidders should see the financial books within the week.
Zell told lenders on a Thursday conference call that preliminary bids will be due about a month after that. He says Tribune continues to explore a possible sale of Wrigley by itself to an Illinois state agency, but it won’t delay the overall sale in the meantime.
According to Zell, there’s never been a better time to market the team and the ballpark with the Cubs in first place and driving record attendance.
Separately, Chief Operating Officer Randy Michaels says the company is looking at reducing the number of pages in its newspapers. No details were disclosed.
