TAMPA, Fla. (AP) -Yankees pitcher Andy Pettitte threw 42 pitches during a bullpen session Friday, two days after he was scratched from his scheduled start due to minor muscle irritation on the outside of his throwing elbow.
The left-hander is scheduled to start Monday against Boston. He had a long toss session before working off the mound.
“It felt real good,” Pettitte said. “I was able to stretch it out in my long toss. For me to back up the distance in my long toss like I did, I knew I wasn’t going to have any problems. … Stretch out like that in long toss, you know your arm is good.”
Pettitte said he hasn’t felt any discomfort in his arm since Tuesday. He didn’t throw Wednesday, but played catch Thursday.
Pettitte has three spring training starts remaining, which he said gives him enough time to be ready for the start of the regular season.
