TAMPA, Fla. (AP) -Right-hander Brett Tomko was a late addition to the New York Yankees’ spring training camp, agreeing Friday to a minor league contract as pitchers and catchers reported.
The 35-year-old was 2-7 with a 6.97 ERA last season in 10 starts and six relief appearances for Kansas City. The Royals designated him for assignment on June 12 and put him on waivers nine days later.
He signed with San Diego on June 27, his third stint with the Padres, but went on the disabled list July 1 with a strained right elbow after making just two relief appearances. San Diego activated him on Aug. 19 and he made four relief appearances before being released Sept. 4.
Tomko has a 95-99 record with two saves and a 4.68 ERA in 368 appearances over 12 major league seasons. He was assigned No. 53.
