JACKSON, Tenn. (AP) -Kerry Wood pitched 1 2-3 hitless innings for the Cubs’ Double-A affiliate in his eighth rehab assignment of the season Tuesday night.
After entering with one out in the seventh inning, Wood threw 24 pitches consistently clocked at 94 mph. He struck out one and allowed only one walk.
“I feel great,” said Wood, who has been on the disabled list all season with a lingering injury to his right shoulder. “Other than the first four or five pitches, everything felt fine.”
Wood has pitched four innings in four outings for Chicago’s Rookie League team and three more innings in three appearances for Class A Peoria. He also threw a bullpen session Sunday at Cincinnati’s Great American Ball Park.
Wood, who had surgery on his right shoulder in August 2005, made four starts with the Cubs last year before his season ended because of shoulder problems. He pitched in spring training but was eventually sidelined by shoulder tendinitis.
Wood would likely be activated either Thursday or Friday, according to general manager Jim Hendry.
“It’s fun up there right now,” Wood said. “They are playing well and I’m looking forward to being a part of that.”
