BALTIMORE (AP) -The Minnesota Twins placed third baseman Tommy Watkins on the 15-day disabled list Thursday with a lower abdominal muscle strain.
Third baseman Brian Buscher was reinstated from the disabled list to take his place.
Watkins, a 10-year minor league veteran who made his major league debut earlier this month, is batting .357 in 28 at-bats since his promotion. He got hurt while running out a single in the eighth inning of Minnesota’s 8-4 victory over Seattle on Wednesday.
Buscher, who missed the last two weeks after developing an infection that resulted from a foul ball he hit off his leg, was batting .227 in 22 at-bats before he got hurt.
The team was in Baltimore on Thursday to play the Orioles.
