MINNEAPOLIS (AP) – The Detroit Tigers and Minnesota Twins are off to a frosty start.
It was 35 degrees for Monday’s opener at Target Field, though the sun was shining brightly in a cloudless sky.
That’s a tough transition from nearly two months of spring training in balmy Florida. But while everybody was bundling up for the afternoon, none of the players seemed to mind much.
New Tigers right fielder Torii Hunter said his strategy is to put Vaseline on his arms and legs to “close your pores up” before donning long sleeves and two pair of underwear. Twins first baseman Justin Morneau joked he’d slather hot sauce all over his skin.
