ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. (AP) -Detroit Tigers reliever Joel Zumaya has tenderness in his upper right arm-shoulder area and will not be unavailable to pitch for at least a few days.
“We’re hoping Tuesday he’s able to pitch,” Tigers manager Jim Leyland said before Saturday night’s game against Tampa Bay.
Zumaya left a game on July 27 with the Chicago White Sox due to tightness in his right triceps. Leyland said the current problem is above that spot.
The right-hander was examined after pitching 1 1-3 innings in the Tigers’ 5-2 loss to the Tampa Bay on Friday night. Leyland said Zumaya didn’t seem to finish some of his pitches during the outing.
Zumaya had offseason right shoulder surgery and didn’t join the team until June 20.
