FRISCO, Texas (AP) -Texas first baseman Mark Teixeira went 0-for-2 with two walks in a rehabilitation start for Double-A Frisco on Wednesday night.
Teixeira has been on the disabled list since June 9 with a strained left quadriceps muscle. He flew out in his first two chances before walking in his last two plate appearances.
Teixeira was pulled for a pinch runner in the eighth inning of Frisco’s 5-2 win against Corpus Christi.
“I wanted to test my leg out running, which I did a few times,” said Teixeira, who did not field a ball defensively. “I wanted to swing the bat and just play a full game. Everything felt good.”
Teixeira will fly with the Rangers to the West Coast on Thursday and expects to be activated in time for Friday’s game against the Los Angeles Angels.
“I’m really looking forward to it,” Teixeira said. “It has been a tough month. It felt really good to be out there. It was fun playing in this game.”
Teixeira got hurt June 8 when he lunged at first base and landed awkwardly on the bag running out a grounder. He was hitting .302 with 12 homers and 41 RBIs in 61 games.
Teixeira was not the only player making a rehab appearance as Houston Astros reliever Brad Lidge threw a perfect first inning for Corpus Christi. Lidge threw only eight pitches.
Teixeira batted fourth for Frisco and did not face Lidge.
“He gets me out enough,” Teixeira joked. “I’ll leave those at-bats for the Astros series.”
