KANSAS CITY, Mo. (AP) -All-Star closer Joakim Soria will be out of the Kansas City Royals lineup at least three days with a sore right shoulder.
Soria had an MRI exam that revealed no structural damage, and Royals manager Trey Hillman said Friday the young pitcher is on “special medication” and is doing exercises to help the shoulder.
Hillman said he would use a closer-by-committee approach until Soria returns.
The 24-year-old Soria logged 42 saves last year and is 5-for-5 in save situations this season. He missed a large portion of spring training to pitch for Mexico in the World Baseball Classic, but was used only two innings over 17 days.
